HMRC has confirmed it will provide phone support through the self assessment: general enquiries helpline on Saturday 7 November from 9am to 3pm for taxpayers in the £50,000 cohort who need assistance with sending their second quarterly update.
This phone line is normally closed on a Saturday, but with nearly 900,000 taxpayers due to file HMRC clearly expects high demand.
This is an extension of the usual service to support MTD taxpayers, but HMRC stressed: ‘If you need support, contact us during the week when our full phone service is available.’
The next MTD deadline is for the second quarterly update for those with self employed and property income exceeding £50,000.
From September, HMRC has been automatically enrolling the several hundred thousand MTD taxpayers who had not signed up themselves, and those affected self employed, sole traders and landlords will have been contacted to advise them that they are legally required to file quarterly.
